Assessment drives thoughtful implementation initiatives
A large East coast academic medical center had a number of initiatives
that they were considering. Three of the large components included converting to a new HIS system, upgrading to Advanced Web and integrating the two systems.
I was hired to assess particular areas of concern. During that assessment, other items came to light through our observations and research. While listening to both administrative and management staff, we sought understanding of not only the immediate concerns, but also the strategic goals of the organization, which helped us to pinpoint considerations and risks. By interviewing the users we were able to glean further understanding of how the system and/or workflows could be improved to gain efficiencies.
Results: Based on the information that we gathered from the organization, we were able to determine the focus areas and prioritize those based on input from the organization and the experience from previous such engagements. Many of those changes are currently being implemented and we are moving forward on the implementation of the HIS system.

Troubleshooting and Training, Assisting a client with Claims and EDI
A large university system medical group is using a third-party system to create electronic claims from traditional paper claim files generated in Centricity
Business. The client wanted two critical claim issues addressed as well as an EDI training plan and an EDI Toolkit implementation proposal. Over the period of three days a review of their current system configuration, meetings with their claims/EDI staff, and specific claim form updates were completed. I provided training on the use of Invoice FSC List versus Registration FSC List In addition we provided documentation and a review of the concept to the claims/EDI staff.
Results: A report was provided to the client identifying the work completed on the two critical issues, along with a proposed EDI training agenda and an EDI Toolkit implementation plan. Additional observations and recommendations, on related topics, were noted. A summary table outlining the suggested priority of actions, based on their revenue impact, was provided to the client for their review.

Successful module implementation delivers results for IDN
Prior to joining Global Works I was at a large, West Coast IDN. I was a key member of the HPA TES Implementation Team. Requirements included set up of
workfiles by department, by interface, across 4 facilities for both clinical and non-clinical source systems. Approximately 100 staff and managers were trained in working key edits and performing a complex daily reconciliation process of charges utilizing customized reporting. Interface monitoring, the nightly edit evaluation process and reporting were automated using the operating system scheduling application. Any anomalies paged on-call staff for follow up.
Results: Charge capture and accuracy were improved for key departments across the IDN. Executive management had greater visibility in to departmental charge activities and could focus on areas needing extra assistance. Users were successfully trained on fixing edits and a complex reconciliation process.

My Virtual Support Services (VSS) role has been a uniquely rewarding experience. My first client required Post Go-Live support for physicians transitioning to a new
EHR. However, my duties have expanded with our client base to include build work, process assessment, error resolution and end user trainings. All calls managed by the help desk are entered into an issue log detailing each issue and the resolution. The issues list is then reviewed in a weekly conference call by staff members and me. This allows the organization to gather reporting statistics as well as identify problematic providers who could benefit from additional training. A PC sharing tool is used at times for training reinforcement and troubleshooting technical issues. This interaction along with continued phone conversations established a working bond with the providers I thought would be absent with remote support.
Results: On-Site FTE’s focus on hospital duties while remote support resolves any questions or concerns thus raising the level of service throughout the organization. In addition, remote support hours offer a more flexible coverage time at a reduced rate without a drop in the level of service.

Working as a remote resource supporting multiple GE applications for a southwestern medical center was rewarding. I was able to utilize my
applications and programming experience to assist in successfully completing a variety of project initiatives and production needs ranging from closing out existing work orders that were up to 18 months old to projects that were held up due to a lack of resources. The Global Works virtual team members enabled the client to focus on a system conversion.
Results: Global Works Virtual Support Team addressed the ongoing support needs. The client refocused their team members on the conversion work that was needed.

Conversion to electronic coding increases productivity
I managed the conversion from paper workflow to electronic coding system for both hospital based radiology clients and outpatient radiology clinics. I
implemented and trained end users to effectively and efficiently code transactions. In addition, I developed best practice policy and procedure for coding department responsible an output of 155,000 procedures per month.
Results: This was a win-win for both the clients, who experienced a decrease in the elapsed time measurement to post the charge and for the billing service who increased productivity and decreased associated costs.

I have been involved with a project a large university medical center acting as the training lead during their Centricity 4.0 deployment. In this role I have
supported over 250 users as they learned to use GE Centricity Scheduling, Referrals, Case, Front Desk, TES, BAR and Eligibility. I worked with the client and other members of Global Works consulting team to develop training materials and programs customized to for this client.
Results: The client is in the final stages of systems implementation and training and will go live on the system in the very near future. They have found the training programs very helpful in preparing for this significant move.
