Global Works Assists with Critical Phase of Cerner Implementation at Virginia Commonwealth University

Well-designed information architecture is vital to prompt delivery of healthcare objectives in today's enterprise. Global Works Consultant Julie Birmingham recently had the opportunity to work with Cerner client, Virginia Commonwealth University on their Cerner Millennium EMR Module installation.

Brought aboard as the Ambulatory Testing Lead, Julie was tasked with developing real-life scenarios that tested how VCU's various systems worked together: IDX VM, PARS, and Cerner. This entailed creating situations that staff super users would play out.

The team then did "dress rehearsals" of the go-live for Inpatient, Bed Management, and Emergency Departments. Julie created procedurals for patient registration and admitting during system downtime. When the system was brought back on line, the patients would then need to be registered in Cerner and verified in IDX.

While at VCU, Julie also trained the Health Information Management Department on their new duplicate patient clean up process in IDX, PARS, and Cerner.

Julie's participation in the VCU Cerner project is a part of the larger Global Works long-term strategy, expanding our focus to incorporate our clients' entire enterprise. Working in the clinical arena enables us to assist our clients with business critical initiatives.
